Hush, My Babe was the closing song in Isaac Watt's collection, Divine and Moral Songs for Children, published in 1715. The highly moralistic texts exhort children to rise early, to avoid roughness in play, to be industrious, not to steal, and generally, to be perfect little ladies and gentlemen.
