Digital Downloads of music is something new for me & Figaro.
I am beginning this option with some small ensemble music which does not require a bound conductor's score. To start things off, I am introducing the Cabal Cabaret Collection, music I have written for an advanced adult ensemble at the Midsummer Musical Retreat. These are musicians who wanted to have some fun trying new things & enjoyed a challenge. I hope you find something here to get your soul up and dancing. Je ne t'aime pas/Erbarme dich - Digital DownloadThis is a mash-up of Je ne t'aime pas; lyrics by Maurice Magre, music by Kurt Weill & Erbarme dich, mein Gott from J.S. Bach's St. Matthew's Passion. For a cabaret trio of mezzo-soprano, trumpet & vibraphone. This melancholy setting is rather difficult, but serves up the most emotional impact with the smallest instrumentation. The lyrics are in the original German and French. The Bach aria says “Have mercy Lord, My God, for the sake of my tears" and the Weill/Magre says "I don't love you any more [I still love you]" with plenty of "Take your hand away, I don't love you, you are just a friend, your dear kiss, your sleeping head, are made for others, don't talk to me, especially intimately in a low voice in the evening, I don't love you." Señor Blues - Brass Quintet Digital DownloadHorace Silver's 1959 chart is one of the coolest blues riffs and substitutions I know. Not over the top but just right. Hypnotic is the operative word here, so the repetitive patterns are spread around some. I wrote out some improv solo sketches as suggestions, but they really ought to be improvised. Opportunities for solos are available for both trumpets and the tuba, or anyone in the ensemble with a little creativity.
