This is a mash-up of Je ne t'aime pas; lyrics by Maurice Magre, music by Kurt Weill & Erbarme dich, mein Gott from J.S. Bach's St. Matthew's Passion. For a cabaret trio of mezzo-soprano, trumpet & vibraphone.
This melancholy setting is rather difficult, but serves up the most emotional impact with the smallest instrumentation. The lyrics are in the original German and French.
The Bach aria says “Have mercy Lord, My God, for the sake of my tears" and the Weill/Magre says "I don't love you any more [I still love you]" with plenty of "Take your hand away, I don't love you, you are just a friend, your dear kiss, your sleeping head, are made for others, don't talk to me, especially intimately in a low voice in the evening, I don't love you."
