Manito Sketches for woodwind nonet
Manito Sketches is a set of 5 miniature tone poems depicting a day of activities taking place at iconic locations throughout Spokane's Manito Park. It was commissioned in 2004 for performance at the annual Mozart On A Summer's Eve concerts in honor of the park's 100th anniversary. These vignettes unfold over the course of any day from the past or future century. A recently scheduled performance has prompted a thorough updating and editing of the complete score and parts for digital download, which includes MIDI recordings for reference and preparation.
This woodwind nonet is written for Flute, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb/opt. A, 2 Bassoons, and 2 Horns in F. The five movements are:
I. Morning Meditation in the Japanese Garden
II. The Park Bench — Lovers' Tango
III. Rose Hill Rag — A Tea Social
IV. Children at Play Around the Fountain
V. Concert Under the Stars in Duncan Garden
