The Twelve Days of Christmas, more or less, but who's counting? A wild ride through the Christmas season leaves this often tedious counting song in its dust and challenges the audience to keep count of their epiphanies. Many subtle and not-so-subtle seasonal and numerological musical references pepper this quodlibet, from Jingle Bells and Auld Lang Syne to Prokofiev's Lt. Kije and Beethoven's Ninth. The reviewer at the premiere performance said: "Such a pile-up may be a record in the annals of musical collisions." Piccolo trumpet and percussion required, only moderately difficult.
